Amy Winters‘ remarkably strikes the balance between scientific innovation and creative play with colorful garments in abstract patterns that subtly shift color.
Color shifting and illuminated textiles have been a common thread throughout all her collections, with each collection bringing a new fresh twist.
Liquid Armbands — Change Color When Stretched
For her latest collection “Structural Colour,” Winters collaborated with researchers at the NanoPhotonics Centre based at the Cavendish laboratories (University of Cambridge) to develop a new fabric ‘Polymer Opal’ lycra that remarkably changes color when stretched or twisted.

In addition, Winters developed a complimentary jewelry collection using lenticular lenses. The jewelry was designed using aquatic images that moved and transformed.
Some of my favorite pieces in her collection were free from special effects. Her silk maxi “Liquid Dress” nicely contrasted an active pattern of a school of fish in the front with the serenity of simple black silk in the back. The “Fish-Scale” dress can also easily find its way in my closet. It is fresh take on trendy animal prints.
