In their recent project “Le Editions Volumiques,” designers Bertrand Duplat and Étienne Mineur explore the poetic “union of paper and computation.” Duplat and Mineur envision the electronic book of the future to be infused with behaviors, interactivity and even personality.
They’ve created a networked book that turns its own pages, a book that disappears, and even a gaming book that uses reactive inks.
The project is on-going so I’m looking forward to seeing future evolutions. View all the projects here and project videos here. I’ve featured my personal favorites below.
Duckett is a prototype of an electronic game book that uses reactive inks to make elements on the page dynamically appear and disappear. Controlled with a small joystick, the objective of the game is to get the duck to open a door to the next page.
