Premsela, the Dutch Platform for Design and Fashion, will present a symposium on Fashion and Technology at STRP Festival in Eindhoven next month. The symposium hosts several speakers including artist Lucy McRae, fashion designer Gerrit Uittenbogaard, Smart Functional Materials lecturer at Saxion Ger Brinks, designer and materials expert Simone de Waart from Industrial Design at the TU Eindhoven and Paul Kiekens from the University of Gent. The afternoon will be moderated by Laura Nino of Philips Design. The lectures and discussions will focus on subjects such as why fashion seldom takes advantage of the new possibilities that technology offers, what has been done so far and what is the educational system’s role in the use of technology in clothing and the role of students. Gerrit Uittenbogaard of G+N will present the design research of invited fashion alumni of the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague who have collaborated with companies to include technology in fashion.
