Industrial Design graduate Stefan Zwegers collaborated with the Dutch Hearing Society to create earphones that will make you feel the bass in your music without ruining your ears. Sensible Music filters the low tones of the music on your mp3-player and uses vibration motors to create the tactile sensation of sound. The product can be clipped onto headphones, clothing or the especially designed Sensible Music garments. Sensible Music is currently on display at the Dutch Design Week ID’10 Exhibition at the Technical University of Eindhoven. Personally I really like the idea of using the sensation of vibration, which is essentially a by-product of having sound close to the body, to create an experience that is less harmful but perhaps just as immersive as listening to loud music. The combination of body, sound and vibration seems to invite the concept of bone conduction which over the years has appeared and disappeared in the headphone industry.
