Aqua Light is a luminescent curtain embedded with solar panels, LEDs and fiber optics. Designed by Lin Yun Lien, a recent graduate of Textile Futures program at Central Saint Martins, the project is inspired by the bio-luminescent qualities of jellyfish.
Interaction sketch of curtain and portable lamps
What makes this project rather unique is the decorative portable lamps that parasitically attach themselves to the curtain in order to “refuel.” The curtain thereby acts as a charging station for the lamps. The lamps then can be removed from the curtain and used as portable lighting. I also love the textures on the fabric and amazing visual effects created from the fiber optics.
